How to survive a long car journey? We present some tested ideas!
Who will see first ...
This is one of the easiest games. You can offer it to your child everywhere: in the waiting room, in the store, on the go. It involves finding the indicated objects, animals, people. Whoever finds them first wins. Any ideas? There are many of them: a gentleman with glasses, a lady with a child, a cow, a dog, a house with a red roof, a fence, etc. You can have fun collecting points or just enjoy the spontaneous win of the people participating in the game.
Or maybe creating word strings? For older children, an additional requirement may be to classify the words in the selected category (e.g. clothes, animals, or more broadly, people, etc.). The first person gives the word, the next one creates the next word starting with the last letter of the previous word. An example would be the string "cat, tiger, magpie, alligator, etc.". Over time, when you get the practice, you can enter verbs and create amazing, funny and surprising stories next to nouns.
We can also play in a different way by asking your toddler, for example, what would happen if the children were born immediately, if it were not summer or if it never rained. Younger toddlers will definitely have to help in the game by suggesting ideas, while the older ones will let them know the cause-and-effect sequence and gain knowledge about the functioning of the surrounding world.
In the car, we can listen to rhymes in English, songs, or play a guessing game. An interesting suggestion was the Picture Cards in English "Guess the Game" recommended for children from three to five years old.
The advantage of this card issue is that the tasks are arranged from the simplest to the most difficult, and on the reverse of each card are translations of each task. The cards are handy, made of good quality paper and decorated with eye-catching drawings.
Get to know the animal world
When what the toddler sees outside the window begins to get boring, you can reach for one more proposal: "SuperQuiz Animals" from the series "Captain Science": a proposal that we also had the opportunity to test. We touched, watched, saw, tried and issued: good note.
"SuperQuiz" consists of descriptions of animals, with interesting photos and small graphics, decorating the lovable book. Older children have no problem reading individual descriptions on their own, younger ones guesswork can be read by a parent. Each description of the animal is interestingly edited, contains many curiosities in the field of nature and zoology, cleverly transmits definitions and concepts, describes records and the incredible abilities of animals.
"SuperQuiz Animals" consists of over 150 puzzles with pictures of animals. Equally interesting for small and large. Tested and recommended for longer journeys. We already know that the howler is the loudest animal in the world, that its howling is carried out at a distance of 3 km (which means that it is louder than the cry of a hungry newborn baby at midnight in a sleeping home), that the Tibetan goose is the highest flying bird that can be observe from the window of the plane and that the anaconda can swallow not only an animal at a waterhole, but when it is full, it can then fast for two years! It is difficult to assess whether such knowledge is able to delight a biology lady. Delights us!
