Powdered milk, especially in large quantities, can be dangerous because it contains oxidized cholesterol (oxysterol), which has been shown to be particularly dangerous to health (more on this topic).
During milk processing, oxidized cholesterol is often produced, i.e. edged substances, which makes it a particularly unfavorable component for blood vessels. Oxidized cells delivered with milk powder can lead to subsequent cells, which is often the beginning of coronary artery disease and is a direct health risk. Oxidized forms of cholesterol, according to other studies, are supposed to favor occurrence of tumors.
There is also another minus - powdered milk contains much less vitamins and valuable micronutrients than its liquid counterpart.
It is not true, however, that milk powder can be added to any product and the producer does not have to note this. In any case, full composition information must appear on the label. However, if you are worried that the producer is certainly writing the truth, you should check the protein content of the product. If it's higher than 9 grams of protein per serving, you can almost be sure that the product also uses powdered milk.
Should you avoid powdered milk?
It cannot be said that powdered milk or powdered eggs are poison, but the controversy that has grown around them should give us food for thought. Their doubts are justified.
Powdered milk as a processed product, changed by man should not be used in the diet of young children. Instead of pre-packaged, highly processed foods, it's a good idea to prepare simple meals yourself at home. For people who are not used to cooking and baking, this can be embarrassing at first, but over time, it becomes a habit and certain activities performed automatically are not a problem.
On the other hand, it makes no sense to sound an alarm. It is worth knowing that small amounts of milk powder in a child's diet will not be harmful if we neutralize them, providing the toddler with many important nutrients from vegetables and fruits. Otherwise - in a generally healthy, varied diet, a small amount of milk powder will not be dangerous.
