The human body, including the smallest one, has incredible self-healing abilities. If we provide him with natural support, in many situations it will not be necessary to give any drugs or synthetic agents. Sufficient home remedies that quickly used, at the first symptoms, can silence the infection and prevent its development. The diet itself during illness is also remarkable. It is worth knowing its basic principles to reduce the time of illness.

Diet and natural methods for infection for the first symptoms of the disease

Diet is crucial, though underrated respiratory infections. Well-balanced is a great support for the body fighting the threat.

It must be remembered that each of us has a natural ability to repel viruses and bacteria. Although in children the immune system is not yet fully specialized in its function, it is even more important not to interfere with its development. Each infection is a test of immune mechanisms. An organism that deals with viruses or bacteria trains his defenses. The better the conditions for fighting, the stronger it gets and the less often it needs support in the form of synthetic drugs.

Administration too early (exaggerated) medication can interfere with natural immune mechanisms. The immune system, which has no chance to test its strength, has no conditions to strengthen itself, it becomes somewhat lazy, based on external support. As a consequence, the child gets sick more often, because the threat that another toddler with stronger immunity repels easily, causes him symptoms of the disease. The vicious wheel mechanism winds up by itself.

Of course, it is not about not giving medicines at all. Rather, to watch the child and "hurry slowly", giving the body the chance to fight the threat. Too early administration of antipyretic or anti-inflammatory drugs often interferes with the natural defense mechanism and the infection lasts longer.

Diet during illness - when is the medicine really necessary?

Year by year, drug sales in Poland are increasing. The target group of many preparations is also expanding, changing their purpose. For example, just a few years ago anti-inflammatory drugs of the Groprinosin type were available on prescription. They were recommended only for children with reduced immunity. Today, they are used massively, with the first symptoms of a cold. Do you need? Certainly not.

Not only is the sale of antiviral drugs growing, whose ads in the season of infection are almost everywhere, the sale of antibiotics is also growing, which also spoil our children's immunity. They kill not only bad but also good bacteria. For this reason, it may take up to six months for the patient to recover from antibiotic therapy. As a consequence, despite the access to better and better medicines, our children get sick more and more, and the "small infection" ends very quickly very seriously.

Take an example from our grandmothers?

Our grandmothers did not run to the pharmacy at the first signs of a cold. They also rarely called for a doctor. They did something different. prepared homemade broth, they served onion syrup, which at the first signs of infection can work wonders, milk with garlic, homemade ointments from lard and camphor, instead of a painkiller - a ginger infusion, which is anti-inflammatory and bacteriostatic (note, ginger is not used during high fever, because it has a warming effect).

Today, years later, we know that these methods have scientific justification. Garlic and onions show off antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antiviral effect. Ginger fights bacteria and viruses, broth removes inflammation, and camphor warms up. And each of these effects can be obtained by natural, proven and cheap ways!

Do not force to eat

What should the diet look like during illness?

When a child has a cold, a sore throat or a fever, they often don't feel like eating. It is not worth compelling to meals in such a situation. What you can do is suggest smart foods. It will work:

  • delicate pumpkin cream - Pumpkin is a valuable source of vitamins A, E, zinc and magnesium. It is easily digestible and has a delicate taste, which is important when the throat is irritated.
  • Carrot soup - carrot relieves cough, helps with diarrhea. Is a valuable source of vitamin A
  • millet - a source of resistance, easily digestible, has a drying effect, which is important in the case of runny nose and cough,
  • adding spices - turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, thyme, sage, mint, rosemary, parsley.

It is very important increasing fluid supply. Optimal hydration helps in the fight against infection. Worth trying out rosehip juice (a more valuable source of vitamin C than lemon), raspberry juice, linden tea with the addition of linden or buckwheat honey.

What to avoid during infection?

When a child is sick, limit the amount dairy products in the diet, sweets, fresh fruit and vegetables are not recommended (we serve after processing, preferably steamed, braised). It is better to avoid also fried foods and black tea.

Take care of immunity every day

It is worth taking care of your child's immunity every day. Thanks to this, you can strengthen the body of every child and significantly reduce the frequency of diseases. Read how to wisely strengthen immunity in a child.

In the season of infection, i.e. in autumn and winter, it's worth it enrich the child's daily diet with silage, which provide lactic acid bacteria that have a very positive effect on the well-being of the body. Probiotics derived from silage have a beneficial effect on the condition of the intestines, and immunity comes from the intestines. However, attention must be given to children to enjoy the benefits of silage silage, not pickled products, available in supermarkets. What's the difference? Sauerkraut is subjected to the process of pickling, and then it is flooded with vinegar, which unfortunately kills all valuable bacteria ... Such cabbage is also free of vitamins and antioxidants. Hence, homemade sauerkraut or homemade pickled cucumbers have an unquestionable advantage over pickled products, available in most stores.

There are many shortcuts to strengthen immunity. However, it is not worth bothering with them. Read why.

Finally, it is worth emphasizing once again that a distinction should be made between mild infections that can be treated at home and more serious diseases that require a visit to the doctor. It is very important to observe the child and react when his condition, despite home treatment, worsens. Then do not delay the visit to the pediatrician.
