Sodium ascorbate is sodium ascorbic acid, a substance that we obtain by neutralizing ascorbic acid with sodium hydroxide or sodium bicarbonate, i.e. baking soda. As a result of changes naturally occurring in the body based on the phenomenon of dissociation, the sodium cation is disconnected and thus the product - sodium ascorbate becomes vitamin C in our tissues.

Sodium ascorbate it is especially recommended for people with digestive problems and children. Mainly because it has a natural pH, has a slightly salty taste, so it is worth spreading it in acidic solutions - for example, lemon or orange juice. At high doses, however, sodium ascorbate can lead to potassium deficiency - that's why it's important to provide potassium, whether with a diet or with supplements.

By using sodium ascorbate, we avoid possible problems with gastrointestinal mucosa irritation.

Depending on the age and weight of the child, 100 to 200 mg of daily dose can be used, and in the case of infection up to 300 mg. At this concentration, vitamin C for children will be effective and safe - of course, given from lower doses, with careful observation of the body. If the stools relax, it is a signal that the body cannot tolerate the dose - it should be reduced.

Acerola: vitamin C for children

Acerola is the third source of vitamin C, which is worth reaching in case of higher demand, for example during infection. It is considered the best absorbable form, especially recommended for children.

Acerola is nothing but cherry from Barbados, originating in the Caribbean and Central America. One average berry-sized fruit has as much vitamin C as a kilo of lemons. Acerola has been hailed as the fruit richest in vitamin C.

1 g (1/2 flat teaspoon) of Acerola cherry product provides the body with 225 mg of natural vitamin C, equivalent to 6 lemons.

Ready-made products with vitamin C are available on the market - jellies, lozenges, tablets, also in a version for children. However, you should be aware that they often contain additives in the form of sweeteners, quite unnecessary, so it's worth analyzing the compositions and choosing the right form of vitamin C - both for therapeutic purposes and for preventive use.
